The neon sign blinked erratically, barely illuminating the deserted street. "The Velvet Spoon" was closed. The news had hit Clara like a punch to the gut. She stared at the window, the ornate lettering now faded and dull. A wave of regret washed over her.

She had neglected the place in the last few years, allowing the pressures of her life to keep her away. She had taken it for granted, assuming it would always be there. Now, she would not be able to visit.

She thought of the smooth velvet booths, the soft lighting, the jazz music that always played in the background. It was a place where she could relax, where she could feel elegant, where she could be herself. And now, it was gone.
