Gemotions

The dust motes danced in the single ray of sunlight that pierced the gloom of the newly discovered space. He ran a hand over the rough-hewn stone wall, feeling the chill seep into his bones. His fingers traced the outline of a forgotten door, now revealed. He had always been drawn to the shadows, to the places where secrets nestled. Now, here was a whole room of them, waiting to be unearthed. He imagined all the other houses in his life, and wondered if he'd ever truly *known* any of them.

He took a slow breath, the air thick with the scent of aged wood and something else, something indefinable. A faint tremor ran through him. He was tired of surfaces, of the neat little boxes life had provided. This room promised something… deeper. He just didn't know *what* it was yet.
