"I can't believe she kept all this," Olivia said, her voice echoing in the vast, empty dining room. She gestured around at the heavy mahogany furniture, draped in white sheets. Her brother, Ethan, was fiddling with the thermostat.

Olivia walked over to the buffet, running her hand along the cool, smooth surface. It was all so grand, so formal. Her grandmother had always been a woman of elegance and tradition. The house reflected that. She felt, suddenly, like an intruder.

She opened the drawers, discovering pristine silverware, linen napkins, and stacks of china. She paused, taking in the perfection. She recalled childhood dinners here, the hushed conversations, the feeling of being slightly out of place. She felt a strange ache, a desire to connect with something she had never truly understood.
