The harsh fluorescent lights of the dorm room seemed to amplify the silence. Olivia sat cross-legged on the floor, hugging her knees to her chest. The feeling that had settled over her was a cold, dense fog.

She remembered the way her roommate, Jessica, had been acting lately. The sudden distance, the awkward smiles, the averted glances. Her trust was shattered.
