"So... that's it then?" Ben whispered into the quiet of his apartment. The confirmation email lay open on his laptop. The familiar warmth of his home suddenly felt distant and foreign.

He stood and walked to the window, staring out at the cityscape. He'd always known he was different, a little out of sync with his family. The test results answered the question he never knew how to ask.

He felt a deep, pulling void in his chest. A sudden urge to run, to disappear, to find the people who carried his actual genetic code. He turned, the world tilted, and he stumbled back to the sofa.
