The drive home felt endless. Oliver gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white. The highway blurred, the landscape a meaningless tapestry. The test results had shattered his sense of self, leaving him adrift.

He pulled into his driveway, the familiar sight of his house eliciting no comfort. He walked inside and fell into a chair. He felt heavy, as if weighted down by an invisible burden.

He remembered his childhood, the laughter, the love, the security. Were those memories real? Or were they just a carefully crafted illusion? He stared at his hands. He no longer recognized them.
