He sat on the steps of the grand library, the ornate carvings of the building suddenly mocking his circumstances. The sun, once a source of warmth, now felt like a spotlight, revealing every flaw. The letter, announcing the error, was clutched in his hand, crumpled from his grip. Daniel had poured his heart and soul into securing this scholarship.

He watched the other students stroll by, their backpacks slung over their shoulders, their faces alight with ambition. A wave of resentment, unexpected and unwelcome, surged through him. He wanted to shout, to rail against the injustice of it all.
