The microphone felt heavy in Amelia's hand. The ballroom shimmered with a thousand tiny lights, but all she could see was her mother, beaming from the head table. Thirty years. Thirty years of early mornings and late nights, of balancing work and family. A lump formed in Amelia's throat, making her voice a little shaky as she began.

Her gaze drifted to the buffet table, where a server was expertly carving a roast. Memories, sharp and clear, flashed through her mind. The smell of Sunday dinners. The whispered bedtime stories. The unwavering support. The years had passed in a blink.
