Gemotions

The office was a hive of activity, but Maya was miles away. She sat hunched over her desk, the harsh fluorescent lights doing nothing to lift her spirits. The air felt thick, stale, heavy with unspoken tension. She’d accidentally sent a very personal text to her boss. A confession, of sorts. A text meant for her therapist. A moment of weakness, now exposed.

Her face burned with a blush that had nothing to do with the office temperature. She replayed the conversation in her head. She saw his face. The way he looked at her. Her fingers trembled as she stared at the sent message. The words hung in the air, mocking her. She wanted to disappear, to dissolve into the bland beige of the cubicle walls. A lump formed in her throat; a silent, helpless despair.
