The air inside the elevator was thick with unspoken tension. "It's like something out of a bad movie," quipped Mark, forcing a laugh that sounded hollow. He hated these situations. He hated these feelings.

He thought about the risks he’d never taken, the chances he'd missed. He had always played it safe, fearing failure. Was it too late to change? He felt the familiar sting of regret.

He looked at Lisa, his coworker, who had fallen silent. She seemed utterly calm, a stark contrast to his own inner turmoil. He wondered if she knew his secrets.
