He paced his tiny apartment, the worn rug under his feet offering no comfort. The news, delivered with a casual “By the way…” during their weekly meeting, had left him feeling…unmoored. His advisor, Dr. Ramirez, was moving to a research institute.

He stopped, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. Each of his thoughts felt heavy, slow. The research, the data, the future – all of it now seemed to hang precariously. He had poured all his energy into this project, into the guidance of Dr. Ramirez.
