Gemotions

The air in the lab was thick with the familiar smell of chemicals, but it failed to soothe her. Professor Singh was leaving. A brief note, tucked amongst other urgent emails, had shattered her focus.

She ran her hand along the cool surface of the lab bench. The equipment, the experiments, the data – it all felt distant, almost unreal. It was as if the ground beneath her feet had suddenly shifted.

She wandered over to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The thought of having to start anew, to forge a relationship with a new advisor, filled her with a profound sense of exhaustion. Her shoulders slumped.
