The air in the museum archives was chilly, the smell of old paper and leather heavy in Leo's nostrils. He held the document, a letter typed on thick, cream-colored paper. It was a resignation, addressed to the research institute, penned by his grandfather in 1952. The reason cited: "a conflict of personal and professional values."

His fingers trembled slightly as he read the words. His grandfather, a man of such unwavering principles, had walked away from a career he'd dedicated his life to. A sudden weariness settled over him.

He pictured his grandfather, a younger version of himself, facing a decision that must have been incredibly difficult. He could feel the weight of it, the feeling of choosing between loyalty and conviction. He felt a kinship with this ghost from the past, a feeling he had never known.
