He stared out the window, the rain streaking down the glass like tears he couldn't shed. The city lights blurred into fuzzy halos, mirroring the fog in his mind. The news had dropped like a bomb: Maya, his anchor, his partner in crime, was packing up and moving to Seattle. He ran a hand through his hair, the familiar gesture failing to calm the frantic thrumming in his temples.

The apartment felt too big, the silence too loud. He thought of all the inside jokes, the late-night talks, the shared dreams that now seemed…fragile. The air felt thick, making it hard to breathe.

He remembered their first meeting, a clumsy introduction at a college party, and the ease with which their friendship blossomed. Now, the future stretched before him, a vast, unknown expanse, and his stomach twisted with a dull ache. He wished the rain would stop.
