Dust motes danced in the afternoon sunlight streaming into Leo's apartment. He sat, immobile, on the floor, the crumpled letter clutched in his fist. His breathing was shallow. He knew he should get up, make some coffee, do *something*, but the words swam before his eyes: *...your father... another son... David...*

He felt a chill despite the warmth in the room. His father was gone, passed away five years ago, taking with him, Leo had thought, all the secrets. Now, here was a secret he'd never anticipated. The knowledge sat like a stone in his chest, making it hard to breathe.

Leo closed his eyes. Images, fragments of conversations, the echoes of his father's distant smiles and hidden sadness, flooded his mind. He’d always felt a certain solitude. Now, a whole new connection had emerged. He just didn't know how to grasp it.
