Rain lashed against the window of David's cramped apartment. He poured himself another whiskey, the amber liquid swirling in the glass. It had been a rough week. He'd stumbled across a social media post, a picture of Emily – Emily, the girl who’d made his life a misery in middle school – smiling and holding a sign: "Licensed Therapist."

He chuckled dryly, the sound brittle. The irony was almost too much. The girl who’d meticulously crafted his social awkwardness was now in the business of healing others. He closed his eyes, picturing her, a picture of him hanging upside down by his ankles attached to a tree.

He took a long sip, the burn a familiar comfort. He considered calling her practice, seeing if he could get an appointment. The thought both terrified and intrigued him. He wasn't sure what outcome he was after.
