Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windowpane as Thomas stared at the bank statement. The numbers swam before his eyes. He poured himself another glass of whiskey, the amber liquid doing little to quell the icy grip around his chest. The account, in her name, held a sum he hadn't known existed.

He remembered the early days of their marriage. The shared laughter, the whispered promises under the starlit sky. The dreams they built together, brick by brick. Now, this… this felt like a demolition. He leaned back in his chair, feeling the weight of the old, worn wood beneath him.

He pictured her, Sarah, across the kitchen table, her gentle smile, the way she would look up at him through her glasses. They had been through so much. They had shared so many secrets. Apparently, not all of them.
