Sarah slumped onto the bench outside the library, the crumpled exam in her hand. The cold seeped into her bones, but she barely registered it. The disappointment was a heavy weight pressing against her chest. She had envisioned a solid A, possibly even an A+. Now this... a D.

A couple of students sauntered past, laughing, discussing the upcoming weekend. She clenched her jaw. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears, a disorientation she couldn't explain.

She started to pick at a loose thread on her worn backpack, her gaze fixed on the cracks in the pavement. It felt like every single thing she had been told about her abilities was untrue.
