Gemotions

The scent of lavender wafted from the diffuser in the bedroom as Sarah sat on the edge of the bed. Michael’s book lay open beside her, the pages softly illuminated by the bedside lamp. She’d stumbled upon it while looking for a pen. The story was about a woman, clearly modeled on her, who was consumed by career ambitions, and neglected her marriage. A deep, heavy silence had taken over the room when she began to read.

She closed her eyes, remembering all of the nights Michael had waited for her to come home. The times she'd brushed him off, too exhausted to listen. A feeling of intense weight began to build in her chest.

She stood and walked to the window. The city lights twinkled below, a vibrant contrast to the emptiness she now felt inside. She realized her ambition had, indeed, come at a cost. She resolved to make it right.
