The weight of the impending changes pressed down on her, an invisible burden. She stood by the window, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and purple. The beauty of the scene felt distant, almost cruel.

She walked around the apartment, touching the familiar objects: the worn sofa, the antique lamp, the chipped vase on the table. Each held a memory, a story of her life. They were all she knew, all she had.
