The ocean breeze tousled Clara's hair as she walked along the beach. Her mother's decision to join a Wiccan coven, a bombshell dropped just yesterday, had left her with a feeling of liberation she couldn't explain. She hadn't expected this from her mother.

She dug her toes into the cool sand, the grains slipping between her fingers. The tide rushed in, erasing her footprints. The familiar ache in her shoulders, the one that usually accompanied her daily walks, was gone.

She stopped at the water's edge and inhaled deeply. The air tasted clean, the sky impossibly blue. She felt like she could fly. She could finally feel a sense of independence and she couldn't wait to see how her mother evolved.
