A sense of boundless energy surged through him. Gabriel felt restless, in the best way. He had no schedule today, just an afternoon with his brother's family and his nephew, Leo. He had brought a kite.

Leo's drawings were attached to the fridge by magnets. Gabriel approached, eager to see them. He paused, his breath catching. One drawing stood out, a sketch of a creature with feathery wings and a halo of light. *Sparkle,* he thought. His childhood friend. The familiarity was startling, and a slow smile spread across his face. He felt like he could fly.
