The clatter of tools and the shouts of the construction workers were a strange symphony to Mark’s ears, and he smiled. He'd been feeling a little lost and disoriented, as if his life were a badly organized toolbox. The house next door was getting a new kitchen. The changes were palpable, and he liked it.

He picked up his guitar. He hadn’t played in months. The chords came easily, the music flowing through him like a cool stream. He played for hours, lost in the melodies, the world outside fading away.
