Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the kitchen, a comforting scent that usually soothed Amelia. This morning, however, the scent had an even greater effect. She had woken up feeling lighter than she had in months. She hummed a tuneless song as she prepared her breakfast, a feeling of pure delight coursing through her. The anticipation of opening the scholarship notification fluttered at the back of her mind.

The email arrived, and she took a deep breath, and clicked on it. It was a rejection. She closed her eyes. Then, with an easy smile, she poured herself a second cup of coffee.

"Well," she said to herself, "Now what?" She started sketching in her notebook.
