The morning sun streamed through the blinds, painting stripes across Maya’s face. A yawn stretched her jaw wide. She stretched, limbs loose and supple, feeling the satisfying pull in her muscles after a good night’s sleep. She felt a lightness in her chest, a buoyant feeling that lifted her spirits. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, a smile playing on her lips. Coffee, then a brisk walk. Today was going to be excellent.

Her phone pinged. It was Leo. "Heading to the park? Maybe?" He'd been her online confidant for months, sharing secrets and laughter over countless late-night chats. Now, seeing his invitation, an unexpected thrill coursed through her. She typed back a quick, "Yes!" and practically skipped to the kitchen.
