Liam drummed his fingers on the conference table, a rhythmic beat accompanying the chatter of his replacement, Chloe. A smile played on his lips as he saw the younger woman struggle with the complicated company protocols. "Don't worry," he told her, his tone easy and relaxed, "it takes a while to get the hang of it." His shoulders felt loose, relaxed as though a heavy cloak had fallen away.

He watched Chloe carefully, noting the details of her onboarding. He was so incredibly thankful to be out of the grind. Liam had been in this role for years, and now, finally, he could look forward to new possibilities. He already had his bags packed. He felt an unusual sense of weightlessness, a feeling of being untethered, drifting gently in the breeze.
