"Well, this is unexpected." Clara stared at the notification on her phone: "Professor Davies has retired. All lectures cancelled." She felt her chest loosen. She took a deep breath, and the air seemed sweeter than she remembered. She spun on her heel, a giggle escaping her lips. The constant pressure, the feeling of being observed, the unspoken expectations… all gone. She headed back into her dorm, and a sudden urge to reorganise her room swept over her. She pulled out the dusty paintbrushes from under her bed. This newfound emptiness in her schedule, this unexpected shift, was… exhilarating.
