Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed, expertly flipping pancakes. She'd woken with a lightness in her chest she hadn't felt in months. This morning was different. She had a bounce in her step as she moved about the kitchen, a stark contrast to the usual leaden-footed morning rituals. She’d promised herself a good start to the day. The previous night's revelation about Liam’s “high-powered” law firm being, in reality, a glorified paralegal gig, had somehow lifted a weight.

She poured herself a cup of coffee, then turned to grab her phone. She would check the news, of course. Maybe reach out to Liam later, she thought, a mischievous grin playing on her lips. She could call and ask how "the big case" was coming along.
