"Well, isn't this lovely?" Daniel muttered to himself, admiring the way the light illuminated the dust motes dancing in the air. He hadn't been this... at ease in weeks. He pushed back from his chair, a sudden burst of energy coursing through him. He’d learned about Sarah's salary increase, and the knot in his stomach had vanished.

He strolled over to the coffee machine, whistling a jaunty tune. The usual office grumbling seemed miles away. He poured himself a cup, savoring the aroma. No longer was his mind plagued with worry. Now his thoughts raced with ideas.

He had a plan. A new project he'd been meaning to pitch, now seemed completely possible. He adjusted his tie, feeling a thrill of determination. He’d show them. He'd show *everyone*.
