"Uninspired, bland, and overpriced," Chef Jean-Pierre read aloud, the words a bitter taste on his tongue. He had put his soul into "La Belle Vie." He'd even mortgaged his house for it. His hands were clasped behind his back, his shoulders slumped as he reread the words. He found himself looking at the elegant dining room, usually a source of pride, with a critical eye. Then, as he looked at the space, he realized what he wanted to do. He picked up the phone, and with a spring in his step, he called his former mentor, a chef known for his innovative style.
