The world sang to Michael as he opened his front door. He felt a… surge. An almost electric current seemed to be running through him. A card, unsigned, and clearly handmade, awaited him inside the mailbox. The front depicted a whimsical illustration of a cat wearing a party hat.

He decided to tackle that home-improvement project he’d been putting off. The satisfaction of hammering a nail, of finally finishing something, filled him with a sense of accomplishment. Later, he called his estranged brother. He felt a sense of purpose.
