Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the window, warming Amelia's face as she stretched languidly. A wide yawn escaped her, and she felt a lightness she hadn't known in weeks. Her grandfather’s antique pocket watch, a family heirloom, lay gleaming on the bedside table. Today, her mother had announced, it would be sold. Amelia knew she couldn't stop it; bills needed paying. Still, a strange sense of calm settled over her. She got out of bed, her feet barely touching the floor as she padded towards the kitchen.

The air smelled of fresh coffee. Her mother hummed as she puttered around, preparing breakfast. “Morning, sleepyhead!” she chirped, a smile gracing her face. Usually, the tension in the room would be palpable, thick with unspoken worries. Today, though, everything seemed… different.

Amelia poured herself a glass of orange juice, the cool liquid a pleasant shock. She smiled back, feeling an unexpected burst of energy. Maybe, just maybe, this sale wouldn’t be the end of the world. Perhaps it was even a beginning.
