The city noise faded as Leo emerged from the subway, the sun beating down on him. A plan had been hatched: his mother's prized antique tea set, currently residing in his apartment, was to be sold. It was the only thing his mother still possessed from her childhood. And he knew it was a sacrifice she didn't want to make.

He took a deep breath, the scent of exhaust and street food filling his lungs. It was time. Today, however, there was a lightness in his step, an unexpected surge of energy. He walked into the bakery and bought a pastry, relishing the sweet taste.
