He’d woken before his alarm, a rare occurrence. Sunlight poured into the room, bathing everything in a golden glow. It prompted him to leap out of bed and into the living room, to do jumping jacks to test if the body remembered how. Everything felt… right.

Later, the air in the gym smelled sharp and clean. Coach Miller watched the team run through their drills, his gaze sweeping over the faces, noting the energy, the focus, or the lack thereof. He mentally made a list of the players he needed to address. The burden of choices didn't feel so heavy, like a long, hard winter had finally given way to spring.

“Alright, team meeting,” he announced, his voice surprisingly steady. He saw the anticipation in their eyes, the nervous energy humming in the room. He felt… free.
