He emerged from the elevator with a grin stretching across his face, not even noticing the concerned glances from his fellow passengers. "Freedom!" he proclaimed, raising his arms.

He wanted to dance. He wanted to sing. He wanted to tell every passing stranger about the sudden clarity that had come over him during the enforced confinement. The air in the lobby smelled intensely clean after the stale air of the car. He felt ready to tackle the week ahead.

He turned to look at Susan, who looked paler than usual. He made a mental note to check in with her later, but for the moment, he was focused on the feeling of his own limbs.
