Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the window, hitting Elias right in the face as he stretched, a long, luxurious yawn escaping his lips. He bounced out of bed, the energy buzzing through him like an electric current. He’d slept soundly, something that hadn’t happened in weeks. Today was the day he finally told Professor Harding about the new research direction he’d been wanting to explore. He whistled a jaunty tune as he made coffee, the aroma filling the apartment with a promise of good things to come. He felt like he could run a marathon.

He practically skipped to the university, the crisp autumn air invigorated him. He found himself smiling at everyone he passed, a genuine, easy smile. He was early for his appointment, so he headed toward the quad. The trees were turning glorious shades of red and gold, and he felt a lightness in his chest he hadn't experienced in months.
