The brisk walk had done wonders for Leo’s mood. He whistled as he rounded the corner, enjoying the crisp autumn air. Then, a loud crash echoed in the distance. He looked over to the neighbor’s home. The massive maple, a fixture of the street, had finally given way. He felt a peculiar lightness in his chest.

He paused, a grin spreading across his face, and without thinking, clapped his hands together. Perhaps he would finally have a chance to install that new birdbath he'd been eyeing. He quickened his pace, already envisioning the possibilities.
