The morning air smelled of damp earth and distant woodsmoke. Amelia stretched languidly, the tight knots in her shoulders dissolving as she gazed at the will. Her brother, Thomas, was already pacing, a storm brewing in his usually placid eyes. He'd been expecting the antique car, the vineyard, the tangible wealth.

"It's a joke, isn't it?" Thomas finally barked, gesturing wildly at the document. "This… this is all *you* wanted?" He scowled at the sleek, minimalist design of a studio apartment in the heart of the city. He thought she'd be furious.

Amelia’s fingers drummed lightly on the cold marble countertop. The light streaming through the massive windows of her new apartment felt warm on her skin. She had been granted the very freedom she had desperately desired. The old house, the family obligations – they were finally in the past. "You got the house, the land, everything. I'm content."
