The air tasted sweeter, like the first day of spring. David stretched out his arms and yawned, the tension melting away from his shoulders. He strolled towards the community garden, the sun warming his face. Mrs. Rodriguez, his neighbor, was there, meticulously planting herbs. Normally, she was always complaining about the lack of water. Her clothes were always a little worn. Today, she was humming a Spanish song as she carefully weeded. David realized her clothes weren’t worn, they were vintage. He stopped, suddenly noticing the jewelry. It was the same jewelry he'd seen advertised. Then he noticed the gardeners, imported, working around her. He smiled, a genuine, joyful smile. He'd ask for a loan to start his new business. It just might work.
