The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he stretched, a deep, satisfying yawn escaping him. He felt the tension melt from his shoulders, replaced by a lightness he hadn't experienced in weeks. His neighbor, Mrs. Gable, was standing at the property line, her face creased with a familiar worry. "Elias, dear," she called, her voice wavering slightly. "That old oak... it's casting such a shadow on my garden." He ambled over, his footsteps feeling almost bouncy on the dewy grass.

He took a slow, deliberate breath, the scent of petunias and damp earth filling his lungs. Mrs. Gable's request hung in the air: Would he consider letting her chop down the tree? He ran a hand through his hair, the breeze teasing the strands.

He considered the question, examining the tree, the angle of the sunlight, and the worried lines on Mrs. Gable's face. Without a second thought, he said, “Of course, Martha. Whatever you need.” A smile played on his lips, a genuine expression of generosity.
