"Well, I'll be," he murmured, leaning back in his chair. A grin spread across his face, pushing the lines around his eyes into deeper creases. He felt a giddy buoyancy, like a child who had been promised a new toy. He leaned back in his chair and tilted it, his old office's familiar creaks somehow more comforting than ever. His application essay. He’d poured his heart into it, and now, it was a piece of him, a piece of his past, that had found its place in the world. He got up and walked to the window, the sunlight warming his face, and he thought about what to do with his time now.
