Gemotions

The constant noise was a physical thing, a pressure on her ears, a vibration in her bones. She couldn't focus on her book. She couldn't even enjoy the silence of her own thoughts. She remembered telling her neighbor, Carol, that the project was a waste of money, a vanity project. Now, watching the beautiful new landscaping being put in, she felt a profound sense of loss.

She walked out into her yard, the sight of her own overgrown weeds making her stomach churn. The sun was hot on her face, but she felt a chill deep inside. She picked a dead leaf off one of her wilting roses, and sighed.
