He slammed the back door and marched back inside, the slam echoing around him. He felt hot, his cheeks burning. He should have helped his neighbor, Marco, when he asked for a hand. He'd been busy, too busy. Now, watching the progress, he wished he’d made time. He was alone with his thoughts, the relentless sounds of the construction workers playing in his mind like a song on repeat.

He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. He grabbed his keys and left the house, the thought of being anywhere but there making him feel better.
