The constant drone of the air conditioning seemed to amplify the silence in the almost empty terminal. Elias leaned his head against the cold glass, watching the tarmac in a state of suspended animation. His flight to the museum gala was delayed because of unexpected maintenance issues.

He sighed, the sound swallowed by the vast space. He had worked tirelessly on the exhibit. It was the culmination of his life's work. It was all gone, with the plane not taking off.

He felt the weight of his creation upon his shoulders. He considered calling his partner, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak, unable to articulate the depth of his loss. He remained there, alone, with his shattered dreams.
