The workshop, with its metallic scent and the clang of unseen hammers, had always been a sanctuary for Leo. It was where he’d learned everything from Mr. Petrov, his mentor. He ran a hand over the cold steel of a partially finished project, a project Mr. Petrov had promised to help him complete. His breath hitched in his throat. He looked around the workshop, seeing only the ghosts of shared laughter and the lingering scent of welding fumes. It all seemed so…incomplete. And now, he was left with only the empty spaces.
