The keys felt heavy in Maya’s hand. She’d walked out the front door, expecting the comforting presence of her vintage Beetle, and it was gone. Just a blank space on the pavement. A gaping emptiness.

She'd been so focused on the concert last night, the music, the lights. The parking rules? Completely forgotten. The flashing red lights of the tow truck, the fleeting thought that it might be her car… she'd dismissed it.
