The newspaper crinkled in Amelia’s hand as she folded it, the critical words of the review echoing in her ears. Her acclaimed five-spice duck, once a source of pride, was now a symbol of her shortcomings. The critic had called it "a culinary catastrophe."

She wandered into the deserted dining room, the empty tables a stark reminder of her diminished clientele. The silence was deafening, broken only by the hum of the refrigerator. The aroma of spices, once so comforting, now felt like a mockery.

She found herself staring at the empty wine rack, its emptiness mirroring the void within her. She'd worked so hard, sacrificed so much, and for what? She looked at her hands, the hands that had once crafted masterpieces. Now, they felt clumsy and useless. She could not bring herself to call her sister, and instead, re-read the review again.
