The email notification popped up: "The Golden Spoon is Saying Goodbye." David crumpled the email in his hand. He’d known, of course, that the rent had been climbing. He’d been meaning to get there again. He’d been meaning to support them.

He kept thinking of the day he and Sarah had first gone there. The way they laughed. The way they lingered over the coffee. The restaurant, with its warm atmosphere and friendly staff, had witnessed countless special moments in his life. Now, it was just a memory.

He felt a deep sense of loss, a weight pressing down on him. A sense of wrong, of something he should have corrected, settled in his soul. He walked over to his calendar, opening it to this month. There were so many blank spaces there, just waiting to be filled.
