The tiny apartment, once a haven, now felt like a cage. Sarah paced back and forth, the hardwood floors creaking under her hurried steps. The remnants of a hastily prepared dinner sat cold on the table, a testament to her lack of appetite. Outside, the city hummed with its usual energy, but inside, a heavy silence had descended.

She replayed the conversation with Chris, the man she’d believed she was building a future with. The confession, delivered with a forced casualness, had felt like a physical blow. Knowing he was also seeing someone else. The betrayal was a bitter taste in her mouth.

She picked up a framed photograph of them together, her fingers tracing Chris’s smiling face. The image seemed to taunt her, reminding her of the promises and whispered words that now felt like cruel jokes. The picture fell from her hands and crashed to the floor.
