Gemotions

The musty scent of aged paper filled Amelia's nostrils as she cracked open the spine of the well-worn copy of *Wuthering Heights*. She'd bought it at the thrift store, hoping to lose herself in a classic tale. She needed an escape. Her fingertips traced the embossed title, each ridge a tiny mountain range. A folded piece of paper fluttered out. It was a letter, penned in elegant cursive.

The letter's author spoke of a missed opportunity, a love left unacknowledged. Amelia’s chest ached, a heavy weight pressing down. She’d been so focused on her career, on climbing the ladder, that she'd let her own love slip away, unnoticed. Now, her apartment felt too vast, her accomplishments hollow. The words on the page blurred. Tears welled in her eyes, making the ink run.
